Job Interview Tips From an HR Director
Here are a few tips that are simple and easy for your next job interview. Do these few things and I guarantee that you will make a good impression, provided you don’t mess it up some other way
.
- Start with a big, old, friendly smile on your freshly brushed teeth. And run a comb or brush through your hair, getting it well out of your eyes.
- Be careful about your accessories. Minimal bling is just the thing. (How poetic!) Hide any tattoos or unusual piercings. Just one pair of tasteful smallish earrings is all you need. Don’t jangle like Santa’s reindeer when you enter the room.
- Avoid any cologne, perfume or smelly hairspray. Some people really are very sensitive to smell and will be distracted by odors, and not in a good way.
- Don’t flirt with your interviewer. This is not the time or the place for a round of speed dating.
- Answer the questions, clarify that you understand if you are confused about what they are asking you. Be brief and concise. Talk at a normal speed and use very good diction.
- Try to show some confidence and some personality. If you are a little sassy or funny, that is okay, but tone it down and act in as conservative a manner as you can. Joking around a little is sometimes just fine, but get right down to business as the interview intensifies.
- Try to have fun!
Interviews are not meant to be torture. They are just a good way to get to know the person quickly. Always have some good questions ready for when he finishes his portion of the interview. Good luck!
