Getting Selected for a Job Interview
There are a few things you can do that will make it more likely that you will be picked for an interview, all things being generally equivalent. With so many jobs being posted on internet websites instead of newspaper advertisements, if you follow up on a job via snail mail, it is more likely you will be picked for an interview. This is because it is very easy for most people to email a resume. Only a really seriously interested candidate will also send a letter or follow up resume with a letter.
When you send this letter, be sure to directly request an interview and note any times or dates that are open for you to come in. Also, include your cell phone and regular telephone numbers and your email address. Many HR people are setting up interviews directly through email now, and skipping the phone calls/screens.
More on things you can do to up your chances in future posts. Stay tuned.
