Professional References - A Brief Debriefing
So you have a job offer in the works but they want to make some calls on your background and contact your professional references. It is always a good idea to email your resume to the people you will be using as reference contacts.
Even better, if you don’t have the time to call them and talk about the job with them personally, send them an email highlighting the job you are seeking, the qualifications the company wants you to possess and what “hot spots” you can clue them in on, regarding your skill set.
For example, if the company is looking for a person who can work independently without any supervisory intervention, mention this to your reference as an area that he has first hand knowledge of, so he can sing your praises. The more detailed information you can give your reference source, the better.
Best wishes in your new position.
