Job Survival of the Fittest

We were talking about the ways we might try to avoid being targeting for a layoff at work, even if reductions in force occur at your employer.  Being productive and looking busy at all times is most critical right now.

In addition to refraining from making personal phone calls while at work, even when you are on break time, another key tip in staying safe is to buddy up to your boss.

This does not mean that you suddenly need to become a big old brown noser, because everyone hates that, including the boss.  All I am suggesting is that you are cooperative, you talk to your boss on a regular basis, you keep him in the loop on what is happening and be willing to take on more responsibilities if he wants you to and you can handle it.

If you end up working a few extra hours (assuming you are salaried), it is time well spent if it keeps you at the top of the “KEEP” list. Remember that as job’s are eliminated, even through attrition, somebody has to take on the tasks of that job.  Your willingness to step up will make you a more valuable team player.
