Network by Working Your Net
We are all so busy all the time and the hectic bustle of life never seems to wane. That’s why it is so easy to lose touch with our valuable business contacts, like our former bosses and co-workers from past jobs. There are many excuses for letting this happen, just like there are for not staying in contact with old friends, but we just cannot afford to lose touch anymore.
When lay offs, downsizing and company relocations or closings have become the expected norm, we need these people to serve as informational links, friends and reference resources if we find ourselves looking for a new job or career.
One way to do this is to start a informal networking group for people who are in similar jobs or industries. This could be as simple as a network afterhours meeting at a local restaurant or it could be more involved with information sessions and a board of directors. I would recommend an informal, semi-social group where there are not too many restrictive rules on membership so that people in different but similar jobs can have a chance to share valuable information or help one another develop contact strategies or even job search skills. The important point is not to lose touch. You cannot afford to be isolated in your career.
Nice warm pix of Ireland on this frigid January morn.
