Acorns in the Sand - Poem

Today I am in the mood to turn my thoughts to warmer days. It seems like they are so far away when we are here in the midst of a January freeze, with ice on the window sills and snow on the ground and in the air.

I wrote this short poem while vacationing in the Adirondacks of New York State. Enjoy it with me and stay warm.

Acorns in the Sand

by Therese M. Haberman

Elegant oak acorns
rest rigidly
on soft sandy surfaces

Down deep dribbles
of seedy saplings
send fingerlike feelers
into dry beds of succulent soil.

Deep down
under dregs of sandy dunes
dry tree eggs
wait their turn to erupt.

Dreaming of lofty loads
of lusty leaves

Fantastic imagery. It’s almost like a series of haiku in poetic form. Very well done.
