You have settled on your goal and developed a plan to get there, now you need to work on the plan. In some instances, this will take years. Changing your occupation completely is a long, sometimes tedious process, but if you are convinced this is what you were meant to be doing, than what better way is there to spend your time and money getting to the place you were meant to be?

You may discover that, though you want to be in a particular occupation, i.e. astronaut, you are not suited to do so because of health, skills or apptitude. So you need to revise your vision accordingly. Maybe you can get a job working for NASA in a different capacity or in manufacturing engineering, developing components for use in space vehicles. You may end up on a position that is not exactly what you envisioned, but if you are ultimately happy and fulfilled, than you have, in fact, achieved your vision.

You may also find that your vision statement will change over time and you will need to revise it as you age and mature. Many people go through job cycles and work in a wide variety of careers over the course of their lives and that is terrific for them. It may just be true for you that career satisfaction can only be fully realized by career change every five to ten years or so. The point is, you can always change your vision statement to suit your own desires and can do it as often as you like. Reviewing your mission every two or three years is a good idea.
