Last time we talked, you were in the process of determining what it is you would really like to do with your life, based on the interests, natural talents and skills you possess. You have come up with a rough draft of a mission statement, your vision of your own future.

Try to refine the statement and make it as concise as you can. This is your goal or purpose, not the path that will take you to achieving it. This needs to be right and true for you. Now that you are satisfied with what you came up with, we can talk about the planning part of this process.

Planning may involve some research on your part to ensure you can meet your goal. The higher the goal, the more research and planning you will need to do. For example, if you plan to pursue a career as a pediatrician and you are starting with only an undergraduate degree, you will need to research the courses you may have to take to get you into graduate school. You will probably need to determine which grad school examinations will be required and how you should go about preparing to pass them. You will also have to figure out how to pay for the schooling and may need to apply for scholarships, financial aid and loans. You may also need to find a co-signer if you will need large loans for your education.
